We’ll just say it: buyers love the Toyota Tacoma. It’s the best-selling mid-size truck, and its sales have increased year after year. This year, the Toyota Tacoma finally gets its long-awaited reboot. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma has been fully redesigned, offering a revised cabin and more fuel-efficient engine options.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Trim Comparison
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma comes in eight different trims that drivers can choose from. While the lower-level trims offer drivers great value and reliability, the higher-level trims offer more luxury and ruggedness, making them better suited for all your off-road adventures. Let’s take a closer look at each one!
SR
The base trim of the Tacoma starts at $31,500, which at that price comes as an XtraCab with rear-wheel drive. A DoubleCab and four-wheel drive are available with the base trim for an additional cost (starting at $36,900). The standard engine is a turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder capable of 228 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque, which is paired with an automatic transmission. An optional 278-horsepower turbocharged 2.4L engine is available. For those looking to cut gasoline costs, you can opt for a hybrid powertrain that generates 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque.
The SR comes standard with features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital gauge cluster. Along with those features, you’ll get wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, satellite radio, voice recognition, and a four-speaker stereo. Seating is pretty basic at this level, however – you get cloth seats with manual adjustments. You can add on features like split-folding rear seats, navigation and a digital smartphone key, but those features will cost extra.
Standard driver assistance features are plentiful, such as forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control, but blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors are only optional.
SR5
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR5 has a starting MSRP of $36,200. At that price, the XtraCab gives you a leaf-spring rear suspension. Meanwhile, starting at $40,900, a Double Cab with a long bed and four-wheel drive gives you a brand-new coil-spring suspension.
In addition to 17-inch alloy wheels and fog light, the SR5 comes with numerous features that were only optional with the SR trim, such as fog lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, a Class IV tow hitch receiver, an auto-dimming mirror, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Some options, however, like 60/40-split-folding rear seats, remain as such.
Optional features unlocked at this level include a cold-weather package and a 10-speaker JBL audio system with a detachable Bluetooth speaker.
TRD PreRunner
Starting at $38,100, the PreRunner comes available only as an XtraCab with a long bed. As such, you’ll only get the rear-wheel drive and the leaf-spring suspension system. At this trim level, you will get everything in the SR5, along with extras like 17-inch wheels, underbody gas tank protection, and a tailgate damper.
Most noticeable to drivers will be the standard 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and leather-wrapped steering wheel with infotainment controls.
TRD Sport
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport trim starts at $39,400. It only comes as a DoubleCab.
The most distinctive features of the TRD Sport are purely aesthetic. There are standard upgrades, nonetheless, like 18-inch wheels, LED bed lights, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
Luxurious add-ons at this trim level include power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, a bed storage box, and a moonroof. To satisfy the nerd in all of us, there’s also wireless device charging, a larger 14-inch touch screen, and a 10-speaker JBL stereo. But those are just some of the options.
TRD Off-Road
Starting at $41,440, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road trim offers standard four-wheel drive. As the name implies, this trim is beefed up for off-road driving. The exterior features 17-inch machined alloy wheels and all-terrain tires. The underbody offers extra protection, and there’s an electronic locking rear differential. Other features gained at this trim level are front skid plates, transfer case guards, and fuel tank guards.
Most options in the TRD Sport carry over to this level.
TRD Limited
The Limited trim is the luxury-focused Toyota Tacoma. Only offered as a four-door Double Cab, you’ll get a fancier-looking truck with upscale materials and chrome 18-inch wheels. Starting at $52,100, the Limited trim makes most of the optional features of the TRD models standard, such as a moonroof, heated seats and larger display. On top of that, you’ll get a standard bed storage box, a head-up display, power running boards, and navigation.
It’s also worth noting that this trim is the only one available with adaptive suspension dampers.
Trailhunter
Another outdoor-focused option is the Trailhunter. Available later in the year, this model will come with higher ground clearance at the front bumper, steel rock rails, front and rear recovery hooks, and 18-inch wheels with 33-inch Rugged Terrain tires. Additionally, the trim will gain performance enhancements such as a high-mount air intake, crawl control and hill descent control, and additional off-road drive modes.
TRD Pro
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, meanwhile, will be the cream of the crop when it comes to off-road-focused Tacoma trims. Expect a lift-kit, adjustable internal bypass coil-overs, rear remote-reservoir shocks, and a cold air intake and exhaust system. But in addition to those enhancements, you’ll get aesthetic differences like a TRD-specific steering wheel, a unique interior, aluminum skid plates, and underbody protection – just to name a few things.
Overall, the Toyota Tacoma is a terrific compact truck. While you may only be able to tow up to 6,500 pounds, that’s more than enough for some light towing. We also like the improved fuel economy with this model, getting 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
