The Biggest Recalls of 2022

by Car Digest
July 19, 2024

What are the biggest recalls of the year? Here’s what you need to know:

Biggest Recalls of 2022

When it comes to your safety, you should never mess around. Driving a vehicle that has been recalled could pose a huge threat to your safety, your family’s safety, and the safety of others out on the road. It’s important to stay on top of the latest recalls, to ensure your vehicle is safe to drive.

If you are unsure how to check if your vehicle has been recalled, please check out our guide for tips on how to discover the latest recalls. By law, automakers are required to fix these issues, free of charge.

With that said, here are some of the biggest recalls of the year…

BMW

Some 2022 BMW i4 and iX models have been recalled due to battery fires. However, currently, only around 80 vehicles are said to be affected.

GM

GM issued a recall on select models this year involving the fuel tank rollover valve, which could pose a serious safety concern in the event of a crash. The issue is that the existing valve did not seal properly. Therefore, if a rollover crash were to occur, the fuel tank could leak, thereby increasing the risk of a severe fire.

The vehicles affected by this recall include the Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6 and the GMC Acadia All-Wheel Drive. If you have these models, you should take your vehicle to a GM dealer to have it inspected right away.

Ford Motor Company

The 2022 Ford Bronco and 2022 Ford Ranger both had issues involving the bonding on the windshield. During a crash, this could cause the windshield to pop off.

Some 2022 Lincoln Aviator and the Ford Explorers had rails that were not properly heat-treated which also led to a recall. Without the fix, the vehicle’s structural integrity is put at risk, which could increase the driver’s risk of injury.

The Escape, Corsair and Maverick were all recalled over a risk of fire involving the 2.5-liter/plug-in hybrid engine. Provided the engine fails, the engine fuel vapor and engine oil could ignite. However, it should be noted that this pertains to models from 2020 to 2022.

Additionally, the 2022 Lincoln Navigator has been recalled over its faulty headlight control module software problem, which can cause side marker and daytime running light functionality failure.

Hyundai

2020 to 2022 Hyundai Venue models were recalled over the driver’s side and passenger’s side seat belt pretensioners. In the event of a crash, they could explode, increasing the driver’s risk of injury.

Certain models of the 2017-2018 Ioniq HEV and Ionic PHV variety have been recalled over an issue with the Power Relay Assembly that can overheat under the rear passenger seats.

Jaguar Land Rover

Due to improperly tightened fasteners, select 2022 Range Rover models were recalled. The loosened fasteners could malfunction affecting the frontal crash sensors.

Kia

Select 2021-2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid and 2022 Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid models were recalled over the driver’s side and passenger’s side seat belt pretensioners. As is the case with the Hyundai recall, in the event of a crash, the pretensioners could explode.

Nissan

Frontier and Titan vehicles made from 2020 to 2022 were recalled due to the transmission parking pawl which may not engage when the vehicle is set to park, meaning the vehicle could roll away. That being said, it’s advisable to always set your parking break when you park your vehicle.

Toyota

The 2022 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid models were recalled due to loosening flange nuts on the rear axle assembly. It is essential to fix this because it could cause the axel to separate from its housing.
